XO Vision HTC35 Universal Weatherproof Vehicle Backup Camera with Easy Installation and NightVision Review

XO Vision HTC35 Universal Weatherproof Vehicle Backup Camera with Easy Installation and NightVision

I bought this to mount on the back of my 2 axle semi-turck to make it easier to line up the king pin with the fifth wheel. The camera itself works great, once I made a mounting bracket. I was worried the camera wouldn't hold up to the abuse of bouncing around on the back of the truck, but it's been a month now and it's still working very well. My only complaint is there were no instructions, it was simple enough to figure out the wiring, but the camera arrived in one of those formed plastic packaging with the manufacturer name and that was it. No other information, no mounting suggestion, wiring suggestions nothing, not even a website with support help.

Pioneer AVIC-U310BT 4.3-Inch In-Dash Navigation Receiver with CD Player and Bluetooth Review

Pioneer AVIC-U310BT 4.3-Inch In-Dash Navigation Receiver with CD Player and Bluetooth
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The boss (Wife) had the stock 6 CD changer in her 2006 Explorer XLT. She wanted a new radio that would allow her to listen to her iPod and have Bluetooth for her phone. I also wanted to add GPS, since if I was going to replace the darn thing, I may as well give her all the functions she might need for the future.
I looked online for a new head unit but it seemed that all the units were in the above $500 range. I saw that Amazon had the Pioneer AVIC-U310BT on sale for $259.00. I did some research and found a mixed bag of reviews, for every good review, there was a not so good one. After a bit of thinking, I decided to bite. I'm glad I did.
I bought the head unit along with the PAC Can Bus module05-08 FORD RADIO CAN BUS MODULE INTERFACEand the Scosche Scosche FD1426B Double ISO DIN Kit for 2004-Up Fordmounting kit. The harness was about $80 and the mounting kit another $15. If you look at a lot of the head units out there, they offer Bluetooth as an option, not include it with as with this radio. That would have added another $100 to many of the competitors out there.
I opened up all the parts I bought and read all the documentation on all the items BEFORE I went outside. I prewired the Pac module, connecting all the wires to the wiring harness from the radio. This made it easy when I went out to the truck. Plug and play, the only wiring I need to do was routing all the wires for the microphone, GPS antenna and the Aux output wire for her Sirius radio.
About that Sirius, Pioneer offers the built in module for Sirius or XM. Both cost $100 and you have to find a place for the big Sirius modules under the dash. They don't offer some of the features the little Plug and Play units Sirius offers; pause, FF, and favorite song or artist reminders. We decided to keep her existing Sportster 5 and plug it into the Aux port.
I got it all installed in about 90 minutes. I placed the GPS antenna under the top tray on the dashboard. The antenna sees right through the plastic tray, and stays hidden. The iPod cable is simply the USB cable that came with the iPod. You can buy the cable from Pioneer for about $40. I don't see the need, as it works fine with the Apple cable. I put the iPod in the glove box, as you don't need to access it, all the controls can be reached from the head unit.
The sound from the radio is great. The GPS navigation seems to be good, but I can tell you more as we use it in real world driving. Some people have said that they had issues with Bluetooth not connecting consistently. I started and turned off the truck about 20 times so far, and each time it finds and connects to my iPhone....no issues at all. The sound quality of the included microphone seems good, so far. Again, we will see how it goes in real world driving conditions.
Overall, it isn't as neat as the $500-$1000 dollar head units out there, the screen is not as big, and it may not have all the features of its higher priced cousins. But to have GPS, CD, iPod and Bluetooth for about $350 total, it cannot be beat.
Edit 4/27/10 After a week of use:
Wanted to add a few items on the use of this system. First, some have complained about the quality of the microphone that is supplied with the unit. For us, it works well. I have been involved in both ends of phone conversations as both the sender from the truck, or as a reciever of a call from the truck. Both come in loud and clear. Perhaps other people had issue with the location of the microphone? We clipped it directly to the driver's visor.
Sound quality is fantastic. This head unit really takes advantage of the factory sub woofer in the Explorer. We never heard such powerful bass from the stock unit.
The iPod control takes a little getting used to, but once you figure it out, it works well. My wife has simply put the iPod on random from the head unit controls. It is like a juke box with thousands of songs.....it is playing songs we long ago forgotten that were on the iPod.
GPS navigation has been fine. Sure, not a lot of POI's, but we simply enter in addresses. For my wife, it is no big deal.
Using the PAC Sys can bus module made the wiring easy. The system knows when the truck is moving, it knows to dim the display when the headlights go on, etc. It is just like a factory installation.
Overall, we are still happy with the purchase.

I ordered this stereo as I wanted to hook up my Ipod to my 95 Buick century and replace the outdated stereo system. The stereo itself is a great deal for the price, I noticed an increase in the quality of my sound without replacing the speakers. I also think that once you get used to the product, it is fairly easy to program, set, and use on a day-to-day basis. Overall, I am really enjoying this product and rock out every day in my car!
This stereo is fairly user friendly, I didn't read the instructions (although it comes with a very detailed set...) and I was able to figure out all the functions that were important to me. You can have 6 programable radio stations, and choose from many different "sound" settings- Rock, Pop, etc... OR make your own, which is what I did. It also gives you the option to increase/decrease your bass levels AND also boost the bass with an additional "Bass boost" feature. The source button is easy to find and use. The spinning know feels heavy and smooth in the hand and almost glides when turned. I think the buttons are easy to read, although small.
I have a few issues with this product: The screen whites out when in sunlight so you can't see anything, and the faceplate release lever looks and feels a little flimsy, I am always very careful to take care and be gentle with it as I remove it. Also, I wish the stereo would revert back to the source/time it was set on before you play with settings though, if you don't hit the back button it just sits there on whatever screen you were fiddling with.
Although this system claims to be able to hook up Ipod's directly to the system, mine does not work. I think that my Ipod is so old (First generation color screen-must be 5 or 6 years old) that it no longer recognizes the software. This means I am unable to control my Ipod with the stereo itself, which is a downside for me. If you are unsure about your Ipod's compatibility with this product I would call Kenwood as they have an excellent customer service helpline. Fortunately, I am still able to hook up the Ipod with the AUX port with no problems whatsoever. It sure was awesome to blast my favorite tunes in my car for the first time!
If you are not planning to have this stereo professionally installed, it can be quite a process and you need to make sure that you or someone you know has this expertise/materials. First, make sure this stereo will fit in your car. Then, you must first access your old stereo to remove it, which depending on your car can be tricky. You also will probably need a harness to convert the old wires/adapter in your car into ones that will plug into the stereo system. You will also need to attach the wires via sauder or crimping. You may also need an antenna converter and a kit to actually mount the new stereo system in your dash using the old components of the mounting box. Overall, you can order kits with all of these components and do it yourself (which I did at great frustration) OR you can take it to a professional which might cost you 50-100 $ depending on the company. Just know that the system does require additional components to function in your car.

Pyramid 1704MP AM/FM Receiver MP3 Playback with USB/SD/AUXIN Review

Pyramid 1704MP AM/FM Receiver MP3 Playback with USB/SD/AUXIN
Average Reviews:

This thing looked great in the picture, but when I opened the box it looked very cheap. Its radio is old school analog radio, tuner and volume controls are potentiometer based. Spring based cheap plastic switches. It looked and felt so cheap that I was turned down just by holding it into my hands for 5 minutes. Its true that you can't expect much for $20 (the price I paid for it), but I thought that they can make it cheap because it does not have a CD drive, only SD card and USB key ports. If you keep looking for a deal, you can get a pioneer stereo for $50 or $60, this thing is definitely not worth spending your money at whatever price. I feel dissatisfied even at $20, I am not sure who would buy this at its regular price.

Going to purchase the JL Clean Sweep, i had no idea the quality of the wires were so thin, a little pull/tug here and there ripped the wires apart. Had to removing the casing so I can replace the cheap thin wires with thicker speaker wires and solder. I decided to give up on this and purchase else where.
This does it's job if your careful, but if you are looking for high quality, look elsewhere.

Metra 99-7899 Dash Kit For Honda Civic 01-05 Review

Metra 99-7899 Dash Kit For Honda Civic 01-05

I replaced my factory CD player in my 2004 Civic. I have a slight problem with the design in that I wish the CD pocket below the CD player would have been the same as the one on the factory unit. It is not quite deep enough so that when I store CD cases in it, they hang out by a fraction of an inch. Secondly, the factory unit had a flip up door to this pocket, which made it look more appealing.
Overall, for how inexpensive it was, it did its job in allowing me to replace the factory CD player with one that has HD radio and auxiliary input.
